There’s honestly nothing easier, and you can change temperature and other settings from across the home. That being said, finding the right WiFi AC unit can be tough. Our Midea vs LG review will show you which of these is best.

What are the Benefits of WiFi AC?

There are several benefits to having a smart AC unit. The most direct one that you’ll notice is that it’s so much more convenient. Most units come with a remote control, but those often get lost or are far away from you. This forces you to look for the remote, and you might have to walk over to the AC to change the temperature.

A WiFi air conditioner uses your phone (and also voice commands) as the remote. You know you always have your phone with you, so you can just take it out to change the settings. Another benefit is that you can control multiple units at once. This lets you coordinate all the ACs in the home.

Another major benefit is that it can reduce your energy bills. You can have the unit running only when you’re home or on your way home. This means that it won’t be running when you’re away.

BTUs

Let’s start with the BTUs. For those who haven’t bought a window AC in a long time, this is a very important measurement. This effectively tells you how much space the AC can cool, with higher BTUs being able to cool down larger rooms.

While both of these offer several different models, we found that the 8,000 BTU Midea U and LG Smart Window Air Conditioner are their most popular versions.

This is enough to properly cool a room that is 350 sq ft, or about 20×17.5ft. That’s a good sized room, and both of them are very quick at cooling the space and making it comfortable. They are both the same in this regard, and they also both offer stronger models if you have a larger room.

Midea vs LG ThinQ: Coverage

Some ACs blast cool air forward while others radiate cool air. Both have their pros and cons, but it’s important to know what type of unit you have so that you’ll know how it performs.

Both of these use the same coverage method of blasting cool air forward in a stream. This is good for cooling the area directly in front of the AC. The cool air will then fill the room and cool every square inch.

While they use the same coverage method, we did find some important differences. First of all, Midea feels stronger as it blasts air up to 20 feet in front of the unit, so you can feel it on the other side of the room. This is excellent at cooling the room. LG ThinQ Smart AC was similar, but not quite as strong.

Then there’s the inverter. The Midea U-Shaped Inverter is able to stay in a low-powered mode after the room has reached the appropriate temperature. LG WiFi Air Conditioner doesn’t have an inverter. It does have a low-powered mode and it’s EnergyStart certified, but it lacks this component.

Both are good, but we found that Midea was the better of the two.

LG ThinQ vs Midea U: Installation

If you’ve followed our other Midea U reviews, then you’ll know how unique Midea is. LG is like most other ACs in this regard, but Midea is different from anything you’ve ever seen.

Most window air conditioners are installed by opening the window, sliding the unit into the space, unfolding the gates for a secure fit, and then letting the window rest on top of the AC. It’s secure, but you lose functionality of the window. This is how the Smart LG air conditioner is installed.

However, Midea WiFi air conditioner is different. It has a special bracket and design that allows you to secure the unit, but you can also move the window up and down freely as if the AC wasn’t there. It looks magical and it’s so much more useful.

We have to suggest Midea for this reason. It might sound like a gimmick, but in reality this gives you back your window even while the AC is installed.

LG ThinQ vs Midea: Sound

You want a quiet WiFi air conditioner that won’t bother you when you’re sleeping or relaxing. You also may want a quiet WiFi air conditioner that won’t wake a baby. Both of these are very quiet, but one is definitely better than the other.

The Midea U sound rating is 43dBA, which is the same as a quiet library where no one is speaking. It’s so quiet that you might wonder if the AC is really working. Of course the cool air gives it away, but the sound is so low that you won’t notice it unless you’re focusing on the AC.

LG is also quiet, but it’s louder than Midea. The LG Smart Air Conditioner is 52dBA, which is about as loud as a quiet conversation. It’s very quiet and likely won’t be noticed as it’s running, but you’re more likely to hear it when compared to Midea.

Both are good, but Midea is better. This is especially true if you want the quietest smart air conditioner.

Midea U vs LG ThinQ: Smarts

We have to say it’s a tie here with smarts. Both of these offer the same exact connectivity options, and they are both easy to connect to the first time.

First up, they have their own dedicated remote controls. We said before that these controllers often get lost, but it’s still nice to have. You can also connect your iPhone or Android device directly to the AC via the LG app or Midea U app. Simply download, install, and follow the instructions.

You can also control them with voice commands with Google Assistant or Alexa. Just pair the devices and issue commands to change the temperature, turn the AC on or off, and more.

Most people can connect within seconds without any issue. While we saw more people experiencing problems with LG Smart ACs, it wasn’t enough to make us concerned. Both are easy to use.

Both of these have the same BTU rating, making them ideal for rooms around 350 sq ft. They also have the same coverage method of blasting cool air forward, though Midea was stronger and faster. It also has an inverter to keep the room cooler for longer.

In terms of installation, nothing can beat Midea right now. It’s so unique and it allows you to open and close the window whenever you want. This allows you to retain your window even while the AC is installed. It was also quieter compared to LG.

In general, while LG was good, Midea is better in nearly every way.

So, which is better in our Midea U vs LG ThinQ review? We found that both are good, but Midea outclasses LG in every way. It offers stronger air, has an inverter for more consistent cooling, the installation allows you to continue using your window, and the sound is much quieter. LG is good, but it’s just not as good as Midea.
